Taekwondo America (TA), founded in 1993, is a national organization with many participating schools across the United States. All schools that are members of the TA organization adhere to the same professional guidelines ensuring the high standards by which we teach, promote students in rank, and project our image and reputation within the community remain consistent from school to school, even though every TA school is independently owned.

Whether you’re a boy or a girl; whether you’re a child, teen or adult, you can expect to be treated with respect and courtesy in every Taekwondo America school and at every Taekwondo America hosted event.

Taekwondo America schools compete exclusively in tournaments sponsored by the national organization. TA sponsors several regional and national tournaments throughout the year and invites all enrolled students to participate in these events.

What is Taekwondo?

Taekwondo, known as “Korean Karate”, is a Korean martial art characterized by powerful, fast, high and spinning kicks. In Taekwondo, legs are used about 70% of the time because they are longer and stronger than arms.

In addition to being a program that teaches self-defense to children, teens and adults (including how to stand up to bullies) Taekwondo is also a way of life based on the tenets of Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control, and Indomitable Spirit.

Students develop self-confidence and self-discipline, become more focused in school and on the job and improve their overall health including lowered blood pleasure and cholesterol.

Although Taekwondo is one of the martial arts, which are “fighting” sports, students are expected to find the most peaceful way to resolve a conflict. Being able to defend themselves physically gives students the self-confidence that makes them less likely to be victims.
